SADBHAVANA DIWAS Celebrations
SADBHAVANA
DIWAS:
1.
It
is celebrated on the 20th August of every year to commemorate the
birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi
(20.08.1944 - 21.05.1991) by taking the Sadbhavana Pledge.
2.
Sadbhavana
in English means Goodwill and Harmony. It may also be called as Harmony Day for
India.
3.
Shri
Rajiv Gandhi as the youngest Prime Minister of India tried to propagate
communal harmony, peace, and national integrity within India and was known a
goodwill ambassador to the world.
4.
The theme of Sadbhavana is to promote
National Integration and Communal Harmony among people of all religions, languages
and regions. The idea behind observance of 'Sadbhavana Diwas' is to eschew violence
and to promote goodwill among the people.
5.
Rajiv
Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award is given for outstanding contribution towards
promotion of communal harmony, national integration and peace. It was
instituted in 1992.
6.
Former
recipients of the award include Mother Teresa,
Ustad Bismillah Khan, Lata
Mangeshkar, Former President K R Narayanan etc.

Baji Rao I (18.08.1700 - 28.04.1740)
1. General of Maratha Empire and served as Peshwa (Prime Minister) to the fifth Maratha Chhatrapati Shahu from 1720 until his death.
2. Also known as Bajirao Ballal was born to Balaji Vishwanath (1st Peshwa) and Radhabai. He was married to Kashibai and Mastani.
3. Appointed Peshwa at the age of 20, expanded the Maratha Empire and never lost a battle in his life.
4. Known for military techniques & rapid tactical movements in battle using his cavalry especially Battle of Palkhed.
5. Died at the age of 39 of a sudden high fever, possibly heat stroke.
6. Bajirao’s legend has inspired several books and films, one of the most popular being the movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015) directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

National Science Day
National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each
year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect
by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28
February 1928. Sir C.V. Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for this discovery. In 1954,
India honoured him with its highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.
Raman Effect:
It is the inelastic scattering of a photon
by molecules which are excited to higher vibrational or rotational energy
levels
History of National Science Day:-
National science day is celebrated on every year on 28
February. The celebration includes public speeches, radio-TV talk shows,
science movies, science exhibitions based on themes and concepts, watching the
night sky, live projects, research demonstration, debates, quiz competitions,
lectures, science model exhibitions and many more activities.
Objectives of Celebrating National Science Day:-
National Science Day is being celebrated every year to widely
spread a message about the importance of science used in the daily life of the
people. To display all the activities, efforts and achievements in the field of
science for human welfare. It is the main science function of India.
To discuss all the issues and implement new technologies for the
development in the field of science. To give an opportunity to the scientific
minded citizens in the country. To encourage the people as well as popularize
the Science and Technology.
Theme for the year 2018:-
The theme of the year 2018 is "Science and Technology
for a sustainable future.”
Events on National Science Day, 2018:

Inter-University
Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune and Indian Institute of
Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune will organise an open day from 10 am on
Wednesday with science exhibitions, lecture demonstrations and screenings of
science films.
·
India Meteorological
Department (IMD), Pune will also be opening their laboratories to the public
and has planned to organise special sessions.
·
Maharashtra
Association for the Cultivation of Science (MACS)’s Agharkar Research Institute
(ARI) will be holding a science exhibition on the day, presenting various
interesting projects by graduate and post-graduate students from 9:30 am to 5
pm.
